In previous roles Can has worked for the Upper Mountains Youth Services, St. George Migrant Resource Centre, Blackheath Area Neighbourhood Centre, Mountains Community Resource Network and for ANTaR NSW (Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation).

Having gained experience in the community sector as a community development worker and project coordinator, Can is committed to promoting the importance of small, community based not-for-profit organisations and the value of cross-cultural understanding and community engagement. Can has a passion for challenging equity and social justice issues affecting our community and believes that Neighbourhood Centres play a vital role in our civic society through community management, their ability to facilitate cross-cultural understanding and through engaging their community in shaping their future.

(Can is a Turkish name; the ‘C’ is pronounced like the English ‘J’ and the ş pronounced ‘sh)’.


MADDY WILLIAMS

Policy & Research Officer

Email Maddy

Maddy joined LCSA in mid-2022 to work on areas of social policy and research, and to spearhead LCSA’s advocacy work in the lead up to the NSW state election in 2023. She has a double Bachelor’s degree in Arts, with majors in Communication and International Studies from the University of Technology, Sydney. 

Maddy began her career in communications, advocacy and community organising in various political offices. She then moved into policy and analysis work at the Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation at the NSW Department of Education for the next four years. 

Throughout her career, Maddy has always framed her work through the lens of advancing fairness and alleviating systemic disadvantage. She is enthusiastic about joining the social services sector and wants to improve conditions for our members, primarily through advocating for core funding for all Neighbourhood and Community Centres in NSW.

Maddy enjoys working collaboratively with the LCSA membership to advance the aspirations they have for their centres and for their communities. 


ANTHONY BROWN

Communications Officer

Email Anthony

Anthony joined LCSA at the end of 2018 to manage our online websites, event registrations, membership database, email and social media communications. Anthony has worked as a Communications Officer in the community sector since 2010, having previously worked in this role for a sub-regional peak body in Western Sydney.

Anthony began his career as a commercial photographer in the advertising industry for many years before getting involved in community work. Anthony has since developed extensive experience as a youth worker in Sydney as well as working internationally as a community development worker on various projects with not-for-profits in Africa.

With a Diploma in Website Development, Anthony has a passion for utilising technology and visual creativity to develop strength-focused stories about community in order to engage people and inspire positive change.


KEUMMI JOO

Project Support Officer

Email Keummi

Keummi joined LCSA at the beginning of 2019 as a work placement student from Ultimo TAFE in Sydney where she attained her Diploma of Community Services. After completing her studies Keummi continued to assist LCSA in a volunteer capacity and by the end of 2020 she had become part of the staff team as a Project Support Officer. Keummi is involved with the ongoing development, implementation and analysis of the LCSA Member Census Survey, assists with the IFS Asia-Pacific Network, and supports various other LCSA projects.

Keummi started her work as an accountant in Korea after graduating from university in Business Studies, majoring in accounting. During her university studies she worked as a volunteer to support children with rare cancer with Red Cross in Korea and also volunteered at her children's school through reading classes and running the second-hand uniform shop.

Keummi has always been interested in supporting people in need and strongly believes in the positive impact of Neighbourhood & Community Centres standing up for social justice, equality and human rights. Keummi acknowledges that local Neighbourhood & Community Centres are key to connecting individuals, building trust, and supporting resilience in communities, resulting in a better place to live for all.
